St Hilda’s College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in England. It was founded in 1893 as a hall for women; remaining an all-women’s college until 2008.

Works comprised a major refurbishment to the existing student accommodation house at St Hilda’s College and the construction of a new 3 storey extension to the existing boarding accommodation. The extension to the existing Iffley Road building was constructed using a timber frame solution, with an external skin of brickwork and timber cladding, in keeping with the neighbouring properties. The main entrance gates were fabricated from brushed stainless steel, perforated with a stylised map of East oxford.

A new building was also included in the scope of works to deliver additional and improved student accommodation for the College and included a feature external stair tower to provide safe access and egress to the building.

The Abbey School is an independent all girls school founded in 1887 and is located in Reading, Berkshire. It educates girls aged 3 – 18 years old across multiple sites.

The project included a full refurbishment of The Abbey Schools lecture theatre.Works consisted of the installation of new lighting, high-end seating, air-conditioning and AV equipment. It was finished with new floor finishes and redecorated to give it a contemporary look. The project was part of the schools re-development masterplan and works were completed during the School Summer Holidays in 2018.

The Westgate School was founded in 1958 and is located in Cippenham, Slough. It delivers a high-quality comprehensive education for approximately 1000 young people aged between 11 and 19 years old.

This project represented the third build project undertaken by Feltham for the school and comprised the design and construction of two, two storey buildings completed in two phases with an ancillary phase involving a summer refurbishment of existing science labs. The two buildings provide . The new structures provide additional 6th form areas, classrooms and further storage space for the School hall.

Additional refurbishment and alteration work were also included to provide the design technology and science classrooms with fully equipped ancillary areas.

During the construction stages of the project, students from the school were invited on site to sign the erected steel frame, this provided the pupils and staff with an insight to the works taking place at their School.

Marlborough College is an independent boarding and day school founded in 1843 and located in Wiltshire, England. Originally built for the sons of Church of England clergy, it is now co-educational.

Works comprised of a new 3 storey boarding house, consisting of 71 new bedrooms for the female students, as well as a communal kitchen and dining spaces with associated facilities. Communal areas are located on the ground floor with direct access to an outdoor courtyard, other quieter study areas are situated to the west of the house. The upper floors comprised of the accommodation suites, each with their own social areas.

Whilst not located within the main school teaching area, the new building is located adjacent to an existing boarding house and is sited on a main walkway through from the nearby residential areas to the main school buildings. A nursery building is situated abutting the site, and deliveries were scheduled to take into account of the busy movement times for both School and Nursery.

Works also include drainage diversions, groundworks and associated external works involving hard and soft landscaping as well as new utility services.

The Castle School caters for children with a variety of complex learning difficulties from the ages of 3-19, offering a range provisions for different ages and needs, therefore our team were required to consider the additional challenges that arise when working within such an environment, especially when planning and managing the works.

This project consisted of a new build extension to provide 3 spacious, fully equipped classrooms for the pupils. The scope of works also included the alterations and refurbishment works to improve the access to the classrooms and upgrades to the car park.

The site layout required Feltham’s to produce a logistical plan which ensured that the school could maintain safe access to the sports field, whenever its was required. The temporary roadway to the site which crossed over the access to the playing fields was fenced on both sides to protect pupils, staff and other visitors from vehicles and was fitted with a two-way gate system, set to open for the pupils to move freely to the fields.

This way controlled by a Banksman when vehicle movement was required to the building to ensure safe movement.

 

 

Cirencester Deer Park School was founded in 1966 and is located in Gloucestershire, England. It is an all-ability mixed comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-16 years old.

The project at Deer Park School comprised of the design and construction of a new 2 storey extension to the existing main school building, providing extra classroom space. Works also included the demolition and clearing out of the existing classroom to enable the new extension. A number of internal existing classrooms were refurbished and reformed during the project.

A full internal fit out has been completed, including lighting and furniture.

Queen Anne’s School was founded in 1894 and situated in Caversham, Reading. It is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 years old.

Feltham have worked with Queen Anne’s School in numerous projects over the years and were delighted to be contracted again to construct the new music facilities. The goal was to provide a space within the main school building for new Music facilities, by converting the old dining areas.

The works were carried out in two phases, between January 2018 and July 2019. The scope of the works included structural alterations (to alter the configuration), new services throughout (including specialist AV), the infill of courtyard areas and all internal finishes. The completed scheme provides acoustically insulated practice rooms, two larger performance rooms, a new main school entrance foyer and ancillary office and amenity spaces.

The project was carried out within an occupied building and the site was segregated from the live school areas and pupils with temporary screens and separate accesses to ensure safety measures were ahered to.

Warblington School is a coeducational community secondary school founded in 1955 and is located in Havant, Hampshire for children aged 11-16 years old.

The scope involved the construction of a school extension to provide a new, fully equipped kitchen for the staff and pupils of Warblington. Works also included the reroofing and re-cladding works to the rest of the building including, the Gym, Dance Studio and Main Hall.

Feltham Construction were also required to complete the demolition of the existing School structure.

The site was located within the main School grounds, therefore Feltham Construction implemented specific policies and procedures to ensure the safety of the Children, teachers and other visitors.

 

The Tiffin School is a boys’ grammar school founded in 1880 and is located in Kingston-upon-Thames, England.

Works comprised of the erection of a new school extension, providing new accommodation, kitchen and dining facilities, as well as 5 teaching classrooms and offices. The scope included the demolition of the existing 1930s school building that previously stood on the site.

Construction included shear and girder walls at ground and first floor levels, a Monodraft Cool Phase and Heat recovery ventilation system, an area of green roof and the feature circular roofs were zinc clad.

In line with the planning requirements, the building design and construction stages were delivered to meet the BREEAM Very Good accreditation requirements.

Piper’s Corner School is an independent day school for girls aged 4 – 18 years old. It was founded in 1930 and is located in Great Kingshill, Buckinghamshire.

This project provided a new theatre for the school that can accommodate up to 280 people and is fully equipped with a large, flexible stage, orchestra pit and state-of-the-art sound and lighting facilities. The development also provides the school with a new carpark, a purpose-built café and 2 large drama studios with green rooms.

The project achieved a BREEAM ‘Very good’ rating.
