Eton College is a prestigious, independent boarding school for boys aged 13-18 years old. It was founded in 1440 and is located in Windsor, Berkshire.
This project consisted of the construction of three new buildings, creating facilities for new modern languages, economics, politics, a divinity building, and lecture theatre. The state of the art lecture theatre structure was built in classical Greek style and features tiered upholstered seating to accommodate 250 people and a further 50 people accommodated within high level balconies. In order to meet the exacting standards to the Jafar Gallery, it was necessary to employ traditional Craftsmen to provide features such as the stone sphinx, copper acroterion and bronze balustrades. The building also provides home for the Eton College egyptology collection, with the main feature being the sarcophagus.
Design and construction solutions were sympathetic to the adjoining buildings on this historic site, the site was very close to live, occupied areas of the College, precautions and guidelines were implemented to ensure the safety of the pupils, teacher and other members of the public.
The buildings formed a quadrangle with a new central courtyard built in classical style to mirror and maintain the street frontage.
Officially opened by HRH the Prince of Wales in June 2015.
