Magdalen College School, Oxford
New Sixth Form Centre
The project comprised of the construction of a new 4-storey Sixth Form Centre at Magdalen College School, to provide social space, flexible study space, demolition and classrooms, offices and changing accommodation. The new facility provides accommodation for 360 pupils. At the beginning of the project there were enabling works to the Colin Sanders Building. Works also included the staged, partial demolition of the south end of the 1928 Building.
The new 6th Form building was constructed by an in-situ reinforced concrete frame, founded on piled foundations and concrete ground beams, supporting concrete first, second, third floor slabs. External elevations are finished in brick and stonework, with a zinc roof.
The construction site was accessed from Cowley Place, and shared boundaries with the existing Magdalen College School Buildings and St Hilda’s College, Oxford.
