Feltham Construction has been appointed to deliver Reading’s brand-new 200-seat Studio Theatre, a major cultural investment for the town and a central feature of the wider Minster Quarter regeneration. The project will transform The Hexagon into a more flexible and inclusive venue, offering state-of-the-art facilities for both performances and community use.

The new theatre has been designed with adaptability at its core. Its foyer will double as a rehearsal and community space, while removable seating inside the auditorium will allow the venue to switch between a 200-seat theatre and a 300-person standing space. Upgraded backstage and technical areas will improve functionality for performers and crews, while new accessible entrances will ensure the venue is welcoming for all audiences.

The first stage of work includes the demolition of the existing backstage area, dock, and stage door. During this period, shows at The Hexagon will pause for 11 weeks before resuming in September with a temporary back-of-house setup.

Once complete, the new Studio Theatre will not only expand The Hexagon’s capacity to host a wider range of cultural acts but will also provide a modern, versatile hub for Reading’s communities. Scheduled to open in spring 2027, it promises to deliver “amazing new facilities” for the town, strengthening The Hexagon’s role as a key destination for culture and the arts.
